Lauren Nicole Designs is truly a homegrown business. Lauren Clement, who began her eponymous interior design business 9 years ago, credits her mother, Linda Riddiough, as the reason she fell in love with the design world in the first place.

Today, Lauren runs Lauren Nicole Designs while Linda heads the retail space Lauren Nicole Home.
The shared passion for design between Lauren and Linda is immediately evident – they are equally effusive and excited as they describe what they love about design, and show off their favorite pieces adorning the walls and shelves of Lauren Nicole Home.

It was in 2006 that Lauren’s idea for an interior design business became a reality. She was living in Northern Virginia, and though her mother had stopped designing as a profession by that point, Linda quickly got on-board with her daughter’s vision. The business took off rapidly, and before the pair knew it, Lauren was consulting on, creating, and installing her signature blend of comfort and elegance to create the ultimate Southern home for her clients – all with Linda’s support through every step of the way.

Lauren’’s childhood left an important mark on her career. She recalls observing her designer mother flipping through fabric and wallpaper books as she soaked up bits and pieces of the trade.  Lauren credits Linda as “the best mentor anyone could ever ask for.”

This interior designer’’s daughter also spent a large part of her childhood showing and taking care of horses. Still the owner of horses today, Lauren refers to herself as “a horse girl through and through.”

Linda says the discipline it took her daughter to spend such a large portion of her youth showing hunter jumpers helped to mold the work ethic Lauren now brings to her clients’ projects. Her horse days even influenced her design aesthetic, which Lauren describes as rustic luxe.

““Anything to do with life on the farm speaks to me,”” she explains.

Her designs often incorporate both the rustic and the delicate, and she uses traditional southern elements like bright colors, florals, and textures alongside the current trend in neutrals to meet what she calls “Charlotte’s classically chic market.”

Lauren and Linda relocated the business from Virginia to Charlotte in 2013, opening the studio and attached home store on Copper Way. The store sells home goods, gifts, and accessories to the public. The two collaboratively hand-pick each piece and product that enters the space.

Lauren and Linda have successfully made their family relationship into a solid professional team. “”Lauren is very methodical,”” says Linda. “”And I’m more of the creative, multiple-things-going-at-once type.”” They go about their decisions differently, but manage to land on the same end result and joke that each always knows what the other is going to say.

Today, Lauren is incorporating her own growing family into her approach to design. With 3 dogs, 2 cats, and 2 daughters under five-years-old, she strives to find pieces for clients that are beautiful but emphasize comfort and durability for a home that can be fully lived in.

“”I am in charge of creating a happy and functional home for my clients and that is a very big deal to me. To feel I have achieved that and beyond is incredibly fulfilling.””
