This week’s chillier temperatures recommend Lenny Boy’s Magellan-Spiced Brown Ale. This seasonal brew takes the flagship flavor of Lenny Boy’s Burn Down Brown — a creamy combination of pale, crystal, chocolate sweet malts and slightly smoked oats — and spices it up considerably for the cooler months.

The Magellan boasts more heft than summer-appropriate lagers and ales without reaching into the heavyweight class of other winter favorites. In other words, it’s the perfect transitional fall beer. Imbibers of this brown get a dose of what explorer Ferdinand Magellan had on his mind when he set sail for Spice Islands: Cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and ginger intermingle with organic maple extract for a spiced ale that’ll remind you in a heartbeat exactly what season this is.

The numbers: 5% ABV, 18 IBU
