This time of year, few things sound as dreamy as a long day spent enjoying a ski resort. It doesn’t matter whether you’re more the high-energy “hit the slopes” type or one who perfects the art of après-ski. Although North Carolina isn’t the first place you might think of for an epic ski adventure, Beech Mountain NC is a destination that’s become synonymous with the season for southerners.
With sweeping views and festive touches, Beech Mountain averages around 65 inches of yearly snowfall. Located two and a half hours from Charlotte’s city center, Beech is a trusty winter wonderland getaway for all ages. The immediate area was spared the worst impact of Hurricane Helene in late September 2024. Some repairs are still underway, including to several hiking trails and town streets. However, Beech Mountain NC remains as welcoming as ever. Across the High Country, the spirit of generosity and resilience runs deep. It’s one more good reason to make a point to help support the local economy this year.
In addition to skiing, visitors can try snowboarding, sledding, or winter hikes. And, of course, end each day fireside and cozy. Kids can enjoy the Beech Mountain Youth Sledding Hill, which provides free fun for children 12 and under and is open daily. If you’re an outdoor sport newbie (or simply don’t want to travel with bundles of gear), rent equipment, apparel, and accessories through the Beech Meadows Ski Shop or Alpine Ski Center.
