Charlotte Contemporary is an exciting new addition to the vibrant Charlotte arts scene featuring more than one-hundred of the nations top contemporary artists offering their latest work in ceramics, glass, wood, metal, mixed-media and more. Guests will also find wearable art, jewelry and fashion accessories, including custom made Oxfords and bespoke cowboy boots. Everything is one-of-a-kind limited edition, and it’s all hand-crafted in the USA. Contemporary art furniture also will be available, with artists using wood, metal, glass, and other materials to create heirloom works of art that will last for generations.
Many of the artists that will attend the show work in major museum collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Mint Museum and others. Their names read like a who’s who on any curator’s wish list. The list of museums that collect their work is equally impressive. Cliff Lee, an artist who works in the porcelain medium, has works in the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Smithsonian American Art Museum Renwick Gallery. Robert Farrell, another participating artist has pieces in the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Museum of Art and Design. Another artist showcasing in Charlotte Contemporary, Charles Savoie, works with both glass and bronze, has pieces on display in Montreal Museum of Fine Art, and Museum of Art and Design in New York, New York.
Charlotte Contemporary also has plenty of local talent including the works of Carolina artists Bongsang Cho, Ben Dyer, Lisa Klakulak, Nancy Kubale, Andy Kearny, Gordon Manning, and more. The list of talented participating artists goes on and on, and there is no doubt that guests will see world-class art on display.
Charlotte Contemporary is more than just an art, design, and fashion event. It also aims to give back and pay it forward. A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will help support the Mint Museums new NexGen Mint initiative. NexGen Mint empowers teens ages 14 to 18 to create and cultivate artistic experiences in response to The Mint Museums engaging collection and exciting special exhibitions. Charlotte Contemporary and their generous sponsor, Raffaldini Vineyards of Ronda, NC, are proud to support the Art Start MFA Scholarship Program, which will help aspiring young artists cover the expense of attending major art schools. Applicants will come from all over the country, and scholarships will be awarded based on a combination of talent and need.
