Museum of York County
Decomposer’s Glow

Immerse yourself in the otherworldly beauty of “Decomposers Glow,” a captivating art exhibit at the Museum of York County. Created by the renowned Charlotte-based artist, Meredith Connelly, this installation showcases larger-than-life glowing snails and mushrooms. Each piece is intricately hand-constructed and 3D printed, merging art, nature, and technology.

Out of this World! Family Day

It’s all about space and exploration of the universe at Museum of York County’s “Out of this World Family Day.”
Learning opportunities abound for earthlings of all ages at Museum of York County’s “Out of this World Family Day.” The museum sails through a galaxy of perspectives in understanding outer space and the ways the universe is explored.
Museum of York County staff will be stationed throughout the site with hands-on activities, crafts, and games to test your knowledge of objects in space. Telescopes will be set up for solar viewing outdoors! Learn about gravity and motion, and how light is filtered to make scientific observations in the universe. Make-and-take a Pocket Solar System. Study a model of the Lunar Module and design, build, and test your own spacecraft. NASA artifacts recently transferred to Culture & Heritage Museums will be on display.
Plus, meet Dr. Tatiana Niembro Hernández, an astrophysicist from the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory. During the event, she’ll be discussing her work at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.
Spooky Saturdays
WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 12, 19, and 26 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Drop-in programming

Learn about spooky science topics on select Saturdays in October! Explore the worlds of parasites, insects, arachnids, and fungi with exciting activities and spine-chilling specimens. This is one of the best fall events at Culture & Heritage Museums.
Main Street Children’s Museum
Boo-seum
WHEN: Oct. 26, 2024 from 9 – 10:30 a.m., 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., 1 – 2:30 p.m., 3 – 4:30 p.m.

Monsters, monsters everywhere at Main Street Children’s Museum.
Mini monsters, massive monsters, you’re in for a scare. Explore the tree of the vampire bats, head to the house to make monster stew. Go to the garden and make lanterns with Scarecrow, then sit down for a story and a monster puppet show!
Over in the boat you’ll find the kraken, with that kind of monster who knows what will happen. The babies can play in the pumpkin at ease, with lots of soft toys it’s fun, you’ll see. Up in the classroom it’s time for a search, you see there’s a monster that’s stuck in a lurch. He’s left tracks all over for you to find, with big tracks of big feet what does that bring to mind? With hard work and talent, I’m sure you will see him, so dress up and come down to Main Street Children’s Museum.
Historic Brattonsville
Harvest on the Homestead
WHEN: Every Saturday in Oct. [Oct. 5, 12, 19, 26] from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Each Saturday in October yields a cornucopia of agricultural activities at Historic Brattonsville. Highlighting the Carolina Piedmont’s agricultural heritage, Historic Brattonsville presents “Harvest on the Homestead.”
Period-dressed interpreters help visitors better understand the past through authentic demonstrations and educational programs. Observe how wattle fencing is built around garden beds, how blacksmithing works in the forge, how the cotton gin separates cotton fibers from seeds and the process of naturally dyeing fabric. Historical cooking recipes bring apple and pumpkin dishes to the table as well!
It’s a good time to explore Historic Brattonsville’s 800-acre farm, outdoors and open air, and relish the Carolina Piedmont’s delightful Autumn season.
