When faced with a dazzling feast of family recipes, be sure you don’t forget that one simple but critical component of the meal: the beverage. To make your holiday a little less manic, we are helping you take care of your Turkey Day beer selection: Sugar Creek Biere de Garde.
Because there are so many dishes and flavors floating around the table, it can be challenging to identify a beer that pairs well with all of them. The key is to identify a common quality among those dishes, which, for most Americans, will be browning and caramelizing, and then select a complementary beer.
We recommend the 2016 U.S. Open Beer Championship Gold Medal and 2016 Best of Craft Beer Awards Gold Medal winner Biere de Garde, brewed and bottled by Sugar Creek Brewing Co. in Charlotte.
This is a malty amber with hints of candied apple and caramel that boasts the ABV of an IPA (to keep the family loose) but the IBU of a lager (to insure drinkability for the non-hopheads). The beer’s high alcohol content and subtle flavors will give the palate the space it needs to appreciate all of the tastes on the table, while the browned and caramelized malts from which this beer is made will tie the meal’s dishes together.
The Numbers: 6.8% ABV, 20 IBUs
