Located on 5,000 acres of beautiful coastal land covered in pines and palmetto lies Georgia’s premier sporting experience, Dorchester Shooting Preserve. Founded in 1999 by father-and-son duo Charlie and Chuck Gaskin, Dorchester offered a high-end, members-only getaway for businessmen and executives to escape their hectic lifestyles and enjoy the outdoors.
While Dorchester began as a men’s-only club, today it caters to those bringing friends or family alike. With beautiful scenery as well as a variety of hunting and fishing opportunities, Dorchester truly has something for everyone. Quail hunting has, since its beginning, been the main focus of Dorchester’s shooting activities although they do offer other hunting opportunities such as pheasant and boar hunts.
Outside of hunting, the preserve also specializes in sporting clays. Dorchester’s rifle and pistol range presents the perfect opportunity for visitors to practice their shot in a more laid back atmosphere. Instructors are available by reservation for shooters of all experience levels.
Despite your choice of entertainment, be sure to visit the 10,000 sq. ft. lodge at the heart of Dorchester’s property. Decorated in Southern rustic fashion, The Lodge is the perfect spot to stop in and relax by a large wood-burning fire place. Be sure to set aside some time for a meal in The Lodge’s gorgeous dining area. Offering classic Southern favorites like fried chicken, homemade biscuits and peach cobbler, Dorchester guarantees that any food coming from their kitchen is homemade with the freshest ingredients.
Stop by The Hunt Shop, also located in the lodge, to pick up Dorchester gift items, hunting attire or local honeys and syrups. Shotguns are also available for rent and additional ammunition is available for purchase in The Hunt Shop.
For an overnight or weekend getaway, Dorchester has a variety of lodging options. Located just beside The Lodge sit two fully-equipped cottages able to hold up to ten hunters and are available for rent for overnight getaways.
Take a short drive from The Lodge and you will find three beautiful, rustic cabins located on a picturesque 25-acre lake. The in-ground trampoline and life-size game boards excite and entertain children while those looking for more solitary experiences often find themselves relaxing in the screened tree house.
Whether you are looking for an exciting weekend of hunting and fellowship or a quiet getaway from the busy life, Dorchester Shooting Preserve has accommodations for every personality.
