A newly refreshed resort on the shores of Hilton Head Island is giving spring travelers another reason to plan a coastal getaway.
The Hilton Beachfront Resort & Spa Hilton Head Island recently completed a multi-million-dollar renovation and rebranding, transforming the former Marriott Hilton Head Resort & Spa into the only full-service Hilton-branded beachfront resort within roughly 200 miles of the island.

Located inside the oceanfront community of Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort, the property sits along a wide stretch of Atlantic shoreline where biking paths, golf courses and lagoons weave through maritime forest and palmetto trees. The resort’s update included redesigned public spaces and a full refresh of all 513 guest rooms and suites, including the Presidential Suite and four Vice Presidential Suites.
Inside the Hotel
My room had a nice sized patio that overlooked the ocean, and the sound of waves carried through the sliding glass doors each morning.
Inside, the look is bright and coastal, with light woods, ocean-toned textiles and wide windows that pull the outdoors into the rooms. Many spaces open directly toward the beach, where the Atlantic is just a short walk over a wooden boardwalk.
For guests, the setting encourages a slower rhythm. One afternoon might involve renting a bike and cruising along the island’s famously flat paths, which stretch for miles under canopies of live oaks. Another might mean lingering on the sand until sunset, when the sky turns pastel shades over the water and walkers and cyclists share the shoreline.
Back at the resort, dining and wellness offerings round out the experience. Dinner at the resort included fresh seafood and coastal-inspired dishes, an easy option after a long afternoon spent outdoors. Downstairs, the on-site spa offers massages and treatments designed for post-beach relaxation.
After a long day biking and walking the beach, I enjoyed a massage at the resort spa — it’s the kind of extra indulgence that makes a quick coastal trip feel like a full reset.

Exploring Hilton Head
Just beyond the property, the surrounding resort community offers plenty to explore. The nearby Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina anchors a larger district of shops, restaurants and waterfront views across the Broad Creek tidal marsh. During the summer months, the harbor hosts weekly fireworks displays that can even be seen from upper-floor resort rooms.
The hotel’s location also places visitors within easy reach of the wider island.
Long known as one of the Southeast’s most beloved beach destinations, Hilton Head Island balances resort comforts with a strong sense of natural preservation. More than 60 miles of bike paths crisscross the island, connecting beaches, neighborhoods and parks. Golfers flock to its dozens of courses, while kayakers and paddleboarders explore tidal creeks and lagoons that cut through the salt marsh landscape.
Wildlife is part of the appeal, too. Between May and October, the island becomes an important nesting ground for loggerhead sea turtles, and conservation programs help protect the eggs and hatchlings along the shoreline.

Plan Your Own Beach Escape Today
For many visitors, though, the simplest pleasures are the ones that define a Hilton Head trip: morning rides along the beach, afternoons spent in the surf and evenings wandering from seafood dinners to sunset walks.
With its updated rooms and beachfront setting in Palmetto Dunes, the Hilton Beachfront Resort & Spa aims to serve as a comfortable base for all of it — whether travelers are visiting for a long vacation or simply sneaking away for a few days by the water.
