As our home lives slow down a bit and we’re challenged to enjoy some of the “simple
things in life, we’ve been coming back to our favorite games to play. Here’s a round-up of solo games, in-person board games, and games you can play with friends virtually. May the best win!
Clue: There are many spinoffs of the classic detective game, perfect for 2 – 8 different players. Find your favorite spinoff and get solving.
The Game: This mental numbers game challenges you to try to discard all 98 cards in the deck onto four discard piles in order to win.
Words with Friends 2 (online): If you’re looking for some virtual board-gaming, Words With Friends 2 is all that and more takes the old Scrabble style of the original Words with Friends and has added on addicting competitive modes with fast, team-based Lightning Rounds or head-to-head, winner-takes-all Lightning Duels.
Monopoly: Just like Clue, there are several fun spinoffs of this game now, but it may be our all-time favorite of the classics. Prepare to buy, sell, and scheme your way to a board takeover.
Animal Crossing, New Horizons: In this very popular life simulation game, the main customizable character moves to a deserted island to explore, craft items, fish, develop the island into a community, and more.
Bananagrams: A bit like Scrabble, wherein lettered tiles are used to spell words, the object of Bananagrams is to be the first to complete a word grid from a pool of tiles.
Settlers of Catan: The addicting board game challenges players to try to be the dominant force on the island of Catan by building settlements, cities, and roads.
Codenames: Codenames is a game of guessing which code names (words) in a set are related to a hint-word given by another player. Players split into two teams: red and blue. One player of each team is selected as the team’s spymaster; the others are field operatives.
Quiddler: Part word game and part card game,players compete by spelling English words from cards in hands of increasing size, each card worth various points. The game combines aspects of Scrabble and gin rummy.
Best Fiends (online): Again, an opportunity to connect virtually with your friends as you take on this addictive, cartoonish puzzler game. It’s a free download, too!
