Charlotte-based interior designer Lisa Sherry is always stretching the boundaries of her creative interests.
She and her team create remarkable custom interiors with a thoughtfully curated mix of unique furniture and home decor for clients in Charlotte and well beyond, but Lisa also hosts curated pop-up shops, travels extensively, and pens a newsletter and blog.
Her latest edition of her newsletter, LIVING, started to percolate when she and her partner Jonathan moved into a new home.

“A change of address often sparks a change in thinking, seeing, discerning,” she says. “This move did just that. It opened me up. New walls, new rhythms, new rituals. And, ultimately, a new LIVING.”
You can get the full newsletter here and go beyond the scenes with us as Lisa goes in depth on the ideas that inspired this latest edition.
A CHAT WITH LISA
QC: You say that beautiful spaces benefit most from being filled with “friends, family, quiet moments, and peak experiences.” What are some ways you think about maximizing liveability with your designs?
LS: Beautiful spaces are meant to be lived in, not just admired. I’m drawn to open floor plans where no one feels cut off or separate—positive energy builds when people move and gather naturally. But retreats matter too. Primary bedrooms and guest suites offer essential space to restore and recharge. I’m always looking for ways to blur the line between indoors and out. Nature becomes a true extension of home—easy, welcoming, shared. Mastering what I call the edit is a talent and a skill. I’m tuned into making a space feel cozy, comfortable, and collected—without tipping into busy or overwhelming, which can quietly add stress and chip away at livability. My interiors are about coming home, exhaling and being open to beautiful living.

QC: What are a few things you are most tuned into when you first meet with a client and are getting a feel for how that client lives/wants to live? You must have to be a very attuned listener/observer!
LS: I love first meetings with clients. It’s the start of a new relationship–almost like a first date! Obviously, being a good listener, understanding likes and dislikes, and how the space needs to function – as well as look. Dreams, aspirations, personal history, family life, passions and hopes … this is all the stuff of living, which is what my designs are all about.
A Designer At Home
QC: How are you settling into your own new space right now? What are a few touches that you find most make it feel like “home” for you?
LS: Jonathan and I are setting in beautifully, thank you. It’s playtime! My own homes are like labs, where I experiment and play with ideas––before introducing them into client projects. I’m the test kitchen! For me, every change of address requires more new and forward thinking. Former objects of affection can be compatible with the personality of the home––and sometimes not. Even for an interior designer, a new home creates new needs. There’s a sense of fresh beginnings—finding the just-right pieces to complete a room, or shift the energy ever so slightly. One of my favorite spots in this home is what I call my Table of Curiosities—a long French farm table layered with artifacts I’ve gathered over the years. Pieces from travels, gifts from friends… a little altar to the life I’ve lived so far… with room for all that’s to come!

This latest edition of LIVING, Lisa says, is all about “opening up and making space.”
“The latest LIVING newsletter mirrors my mindset. Lately, I’ve been feeling especially creative and energized—the new home, the freshness of spring, a sense of renewal.”
