This summer, Major Rager Charlotte will finally become a reality. As Charlotte continues to go in the direction of expansion, the culture scene has been nothing short of booming.
Over the past four years, The Major Rager event established itself as the premiere event for live entertainment during The Masters Tournament in Augusta, Georgia.
Past artists ranged from The Flaming Lips, to Gov’t Mule, Lettuce, The Revivalists, and Sharon Jones.
In keeping with the original golf theme, the Major Rager Charlotte will happen during Charlotte’s PGA Championship. It’s the first stop outside of Augusta, produced by Friends With Benefits Productions and Swope Productions.
Headlining this time is Umphrey’s McGee and Moon Taxi, right here at Symphony Park at SouthPark Thursday, August 10, 2017. The Major Rager aims to host the concert at all four golf majors annually in years to come, and this August, is finally halfway towards that goal. The show will benefit the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra.
A variety of food and drink vendors will be on site as well as several bars. Make a day of it and celebrate the kick off to one of golf’s majors with The Major Rager. A portion of all proceeds will go to help support the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, a major player in our city’s arts community.
The event organizers took some time out of the event prep to answer some of our questions about the show, for all us Major Rager newbies. Here’s what to expect – you’re going to want to pencil this one in to your summer plans.
Tell us a bit about what goes into Major Rager, and what makes it unique.
The Major Rager combines golf, music and philanthropy to provide an enjoyable event for sports fans and music lovers. Expect some challenging golf games on site with great prizes. Many concerts charge extremely high ticket fees and high prices for concessions, but we like to keep costs low to allow everyone to enjoy themselves even more. Our concerts have a philanthropic partnership included to provide much needed monetary donations and awareness to local nonprofits.
Tell us about the community involvement that goes on beyond the scenes to make Major Rager happen.
The Major Rager Charlotte is a rock show benefit for the Charlotte Symphony with a portion of proceeds going to support their annual budget. There will be many local vendors and food trucks to help entertain and feed the concert-goers as we strive to offer a concert experience like no other in Charlotte with affordably priced food and adult beverages all while helping the community. These shows are community efforts; therefore, if anyone has any interest in volunteering they can email Will@fwbpro.com to apply!
Veteran rock outfit Umphrey’s McGee is one of the top touring bands in the US. They recently sold out three consecutive nights at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Moon Taxi’s new single “Two High” has been climbing the Billboard Charts and was added on Spotify’s “Top Hits” station. Both bands are perennial festival staples, known for their world-class musicianship and awe-inspiring production value. Newcomer Queen Park Social partnered with the event to sponsor the VIP Lounge at The Major Rager, and to host The Official Afterparty with The James Brown Dance Party to make sure everyone is grooving all night!
For people who have never attended, what might we need to know/expect going in?
This event will be on the first night of the PGA Championship, allowing us to kick-off the long golf weekend in great fashion. Symphony Park at SouthPark is located close to Quail Hollow Golf Course to allow ease of attendance. SouthPark is providing free bus rides to and from the PGA Championship so many people will already be dropped off next to our event.
