Celebrating the holidays during a pandemic is tough, but we’ve got 4 safe & fun ways to celebrate New Years 2021 in Charlotte.
The COVID-19 pandemic has made this year tremendously hard for so many people and for so many reasons. Given all of the lives and livelihoods lost, it might feel almost silly to celebrate anything, much less a holiday. Still, New Year’s is a chance for renewal—a chance to look toward the future and hope for something brighter. That’s why we’ve come up with a few ways to help you celebrate your New Year’s safely and even help some local businesses along the way.
Throw a Takeout Party With Your Household
Simply stop by your favorite food joints to pick up some orders and take it all home to share with your immediate household. Living solo? What better time to treat yourself to that food truck you’ve always wanted to try, or that bakery that sells your favorite sweets?
These are a few of our favorite takeout spots.
Here are the local bakeries we love.
Pre-Order a Full-Course Meal
If you’d prefer full restaurant-style meals for you and a loved one, consider ordering in advance from a local restaurant. Many places are offering specialty menus and package deals for customers looking to take the dining experience home.
Check your favorite restaurant websites for their offerings, or check out the following:

Have an At-Home Concert Celebration
The Avett Brothers always host a concert in their home state of North Carolina, and this time, they’re making your home the venue. You can tune in to their virtual concert by purchasing tickets at $40 per screen. For fans of the classical variety, Charlotte Symphony is also hosting a virtual concert—A Baroque Celebration: Old World, New Year. Purchasing a ticket gives you access to the concert from Jan. 1 to Jan. 8.
Get Active at the Whitewater Center
Start your New Year’s Eve or Day off by running into 2021 as fast as you can. The Whitewater Center’s annual New Year’s Trail Race has adopted a dispersed race model and a second day of racing in order to accommodate for COVID-19 precautions. Pre-registration is $35 and same-day registration is $40.
Here’s to the end of 2020, and we hope you’ll enjoy some safe and locally-supportive ways to celebrate New Years 2021 in Charlotte.
