The 2025 Pinecone Pathways Program is back for another year at the Moore County Trails. The event is scheduled to begin in the first week of spring and will run from March 20th till April 22nd. The Pinecone Pathways Scavenger Hunt is open for individuals of all ages, so bring along the young ones to this exciting scavenger hunt. What will you be hunting for? Any of the 100 beautifully crafted glass pinecones scattered throughout the trails!
What is Pinecone Pathways?
The CVB has partnered with highly skilled glassworkers at Starworks to produce 100 colorful glass pinecones, which will be hidden along trails throughout Moore County. Individuals from far and wide are invited to try their luck at locating any of these colorful pinecones. Remember that there are roughly 32 trails along the Moore County trail system, so the CVB will offer you precise instructions on which trails to follow each week (via their social media channels).
Apart from this, you also need to know that these pinecones are life-sized and, therefore, clearly visible to the naked eye. They are further crafted using bright colors that make them easily identifiable. So, for the next five weeks, go hiking along the trails with your friends and family and try to find one of these hidden gems. Note that each handcrafted pinecone is unique, and you won’t find these available for sale. It is no wonder that the Pinecone Pathways event always enjoys a massive turnout!
AND…even if you don’t have any luck in your search, you will undoubtedly enjoy the beauty of the Moore County trails.
Exciting Prizes in Store
Each pinecone is labeled with a tag indicating the website where you are to register your find. You will also see a clearly printed QR code, which will direct you to the website. Here, you can join in for a lucky draw to win the grand prize. You are further encouraged to share your findings via social media using the tag #PineconePathwaysNC. Winners will be announced after the event.
Each year, the grand prize is a bit different. This year’s grand prize includes:
- Overnight stay at Hilton Garden Inn
- $50 credit at Pinehurst Brewing Company
- $100 credit at River Jack Outdoor Trading
- Complimentary tour and tasting at BHAWK Distillery
Any Rules to Keep in Mind?
Ultimately, the Pinecone Pathways Program is meant to help promote local tourism in the area and improve the trails that run across Moore County. However, if you are joining, you should be mindful to stay on the trails and respect the plant and animal life. Each pinecone will be hidden no more than 3 feet away from the trail and will never be placed on private property.
Finally, an important note from the event organizers: If you are lucky enough to find more than one pinecone, please set it back! A household can only register for the lucky draw once.
