Southern Cut Design & Build is creating some of the most unique landscapes and elaborate installs in Charlotte NC.
The Griffin Brothers and Southern Cut came together in 2020 to buy All Green Grounds Management and launch Southern Cut Design & Build. The firm is just three years old, but has a combined 25+ years of experience in landscaping and design.
We spoke with Greyson Oxidine, Founder and President of Southern Cut, to learn more about his business and how they continue to perfect their craft every day to allow art and nature to coexist.
Tell us about the first steps when you meet a new client that is interested in working with you.
We come out for a consultation and discuss the client’s vision, timeline, and budget. We then decide if it is needed for the client to have a landscape design. If so, we pick out of our two local designers to guide them on putting their vision to paper. From there, we go into the quoting process where we align the design to projected costs of the installation.
What is the design process like?
Usually, our design process ranges from 2-8 weeks depending on the scope of work of the project and the revisions that come with it. We first send out a sales rep to determine what exactly the client wants and their budget for the project. then, we work on matching our client’s vision and scope of work to one of our designers.
With all these things in mind, we can put together their dream backyard, typically with only 2-3 revisions of the initial design.
What is the installation process like?
Our sales rep does an introduction with the client on site to transition the project over to our operations director and project manager where they will handle the details, timeline, and next steps. We always have a minimum of a four-man crew assigned to each project, and from start to finish they ensure every detail of the planned design is implemented. We want our client to be satisfied with every step of the installation, and we do periodic walkthroughs before the final assessment.
How is your process different from other landscaping companies?
Southern Cut Design and Build is one of the few companies, ran by local Charlotteans, that handle every step of the way of a major landscape or hardscape installation. We pride ourselves on being a one stop shop for all of your exterior needs.
What has been your favorite project as a landscaper in Charlotte NC to date and why?
This is a complex question considering every project we do is unique to the client and their property layout. When it comes to hardscape, we would have to choose the “Double terraced hardscape with sunken hot tub, full kitchen, and a 72” fire table” that we did. Between the ‘Sunk In Hot Tub’ versus the ‘Sunk in trampoline’ we always enjoy jobs that create challenges and allow us to stand out with the unique nature of our work.
What has been your biggest landscaping challenge, and how did you overcome it?
Weather in the late fall and into winter has been our biggest challenge on large installations. From muddy jobsites to increased time spent on installations, it is a constant challenge that we will always face. From scheduling to picking the right project for these times of year, we have developed a strategy to make the most out of winter variables.
“We carry extreme pride and passion into what we do at Southern Cut,” says Oxidine. “From our entry level positions to our upper management, our team strives on being the best in the industry and providing a top tier service for our clients.”
