Circa Interiors and Antiques (CIRCA) has grown from what once was only a small bungalow of treasures into a premier retail destination. Started by best friends Jane Schwab and Cindy Smith, CIRCA is famous for its elegant mix of antiques, signature love of neutrals, and a light touch of now.
Smith and Schwab were not always interior designers. Smith studied in Europe after college and eventually taught school. Schwab, on the other hand, had a degree in Art with a minor in Interior design from the University of South Carolina after which she attended Parsons School of Design in NYC, but eventually chose to work for Xerox Corporation in sales. It wasnt until 1979 when Smiths love of antiques became the incentive to start CIRCA.
At first, CIRCA only sold antiques, gifts, and upholstery. Over time, it grew into what it is now, a full service interior design studio. Specializing in peaceful elegant and timeless creations of beauty, CIRCAs philosophy focuses on creating comfortable, beautiful, livable homes that reflect the personality and lifestyle of the client besides bringing a sense of welcome and sharing to all who enter.
When a client first comes to CIRCA, we set up an initial on-site visit with the client to learn their background, wants and needs. If its a new house being constructed, CIRCA works closely with the architects. If its a pre-existing home, a new design plan is established. We establish long range goals and floor plans, working towards those plans as ready and able, says Smith and Schwab. The design style and era CIRCA draws their inspiration from is classic traditional with currents of modern elements. Smith and Schwab insist on quality and value, paying close attention to detail.
Having unique shops in both Charlotte and Birmingham, a design studio in Charlotte, and interior projects around the country, CIRCA has years of experience that separates them from their competitors. Travel and research for sources and merchandise from around the world, a passion for beauty and quality, and a love of antiques are characteristics that make CIRCA a success. Combine these with a dedicated staff, a support team, and a company that insists on customer satisfaction, and there is no room for dissatisfied customers.
Just released this past March, 2013 is The Welcoming House, an aspirational or look-book Smith and Schwab have collaborated. Within the covers you will find the use of antiques for personal expression combined with the sense of history, the editing of clutter, the function and planning that are key to creating an environment based on comfort and spontaneity. It is a beautiful book that depicts the house with an open door
like a friend with an open heart: inviting, generous of spirit, and constant at the core. The Welcoming House is a wonderful read for male or female, young or old; this is a universal read for anyone interested in practical beauty and comfort and for those interested in enhancing their daily living experience.
