Gabriela and Jose Liz-Moncion are the owners and operators of Rumble Boxing. They have just opened the perfect alternative to the existing gyms in South End Charlotte.
Gabriela is a first-generation immigrant from Mexico City who always knew she wanted to open her own business. She didn’t feel she was making a contribution working in Corporate America. And Rumble was looking for franchisees for the Charlotte market.
“We turned to fitness during the pandemic to set a good example for our children,” Jose explains. “Gabriela, a mom of two, took her first Rumble class during a trip to New York City. She was drawn to the high-energy workout’s ability to tone and transform the body with a mix of cardio and strength training.”
Rumble was founded in January 2017 in the heart of Chelsea in New York City. It has since expanded into Los Angeles, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Palo Alto, San Francisco and Chicago among other markets across the country.
Gabriela and Jose chatted with us about their brand new business, what you should expect on the fitness floor, why Rumble Boxing is different from other studios and gyms in South End Charlotte.
We interviewed the owners Gabriela and Jose Liz-Moncion of Rumble Boxing, the perfect alternative to the current gyms in South End Charlotte. We hope you enjoy their Q&A!
What is the basic ethos of this workout and why does it differ from other gyms in South End Charlotte?
Rumble Boxing delivers a 45-minute, 10-round, strength and conditioning group classes, crafted around custom teardrop-style aqua boxing bags and high-intensity strength training circuits.
Why group fitness?
Group fitness provides the ability to connect with other like-minded individuals and build community.
Who is the ideal client for this fitness studio?
The best thing about Rumble is that the ideal client is anyone. We have members who never put on gloves before Rumble all the way to those who have sparred in a boxing ring. There is no experience necessary, since we teach all 6 punches before each class and the combinations are displayed onscreen at all times.
What should a first time visitor know?
Bring a towel (provided) and get ready to have a great time!
How did you select the location?
We selected South End since it’s such a vibrant part of Charlotte. Rumble’s high-energy brand and amazing workout matches the excitement building in South End perfectly.
What makes this workout unique?
It is just not a workout, it is an experience. We set the lights for each move, have songs with peaks and valleys to coincide with the workout, and have an instructor on stage to not just cue moves but nearly make you forget you’re working out! The ten, three-minute rounds focus on different parts of your training and fly by. We encourage everyone to do the “Ali Shuffle” just before class ends and remind them that by finishing class, they are a champion.
Is Rumble intended as a piece of an overall wellness plan or as the entirety of one?
Rumble is a membership-focused gym, so our workouts change daily to focus on different body parts. The unique combination of cardio and strength-training make it the perfect workout to build the rest of your fitness routine around.
How do you select your trainers? How do they differ from trainers at other gyms in South End Charlotte?
Trainers need to have years of group fitness instruction experience before submitting an audition. Once chosen for the “Contender” program, they go through an intensive 4-week training program led by Rumble’s national training team. Our instructors must know boxing, strength-training, and conditioning, in addition to serving as a DJ and motivator/coach all at once.
