Charlotte-based interior designer Donna Livingston, of Donna Livingston Interiors, is known for the fresh, clean lines and effortless style she breathes into all the interiors she touches. This dining room, completed in 2015, is a perfect epitome of that talent. As part of a SouthPark home project Livingston tackled, this dining room belonged to a couple who had been living with the same overall design for over two decades prior. It was, to be certain, time for a change.
Donna took what was once a traditional style room, with dark wood, chunky furniture, and less natural lighting, and added the built-in cabinet in the niche alongside the fresh, new rose, cream, and bronze color palette. She also replaced the window treatments to allow more sunshine in. The neutral space allows some of the other elements in this room to really pop—like the statement chandelier made of striking blown glass orbs.
Of course, any good designer knows that a home is first and foremost meant to feel like one’s own, so Donna left the design open to collaboration, too: The clients asked that the artwork be the focal point of the room, and picked a piece from Charleston to highlight. After achieving a new place for gathering, this time in a beautifully up-to-date setting, Donna tells us the clients had her return to redesign the rest of the home years later, too.
