Amélie’s French Bakery & Café (Amélie’s), the beloved French-inspired café known for their sweets, savories and beverages, celebrates 10 years in business this month. To celebrate, they’re giving back to three local nonprofit organizations. From Sept. 10 – Oct. 10, guests can help Amélie’s donate to the community by purchasing a special macaron or rounding up their order purchase.
Amélie’s first opened their bakery doors in Charlotte’s NoDa neighborhood in 2008 and has since grown to five other locations. To celebrate their 10th year, Amélie’s is creating a limited-time birthday cake-flavored macaron with 100 percent of sales going to three local nonprofits: Habitat for Humanity of Charlotte, Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, and Crisis Assistance Ministry. Available at all locations from Sept. 10 – Oct. 10, the Birthday Cake French Macaron features a cake batter buttercream filling between two macaron cookies with rainbow sprinkles. All proceeds from the sale of this special macaron will be donated evenly to each nonprofit (with a minimum donation of $2,000 each).
“We owe everything to the Charlotte community for supporting us from day one, and we want to thank everyone for helping us grow to where we are today,” said Mary Jayne Wilson, Amélie’s Executive Chef. “We have had an amazing past 10 years serving our guests, and we can’t wait to see where the next 10 will take us.”
In 10 years, Amélie’s has collectively used 488,000 pounds of sugar, cracked 3,048,600 eggs and poured 1,134,293 cups of coffee. Since feeding the community is such a large part of who Amélie’s is, they’ve chosen to support Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina to distribute food to those in need. Since opening in 2008, Amélie’s designer has created unique décor, including 351 handmade chandeliers, with previously-used furniture and fixtures.
As a huge percentage of those furnishings come from Habitat ReStores, Amélie’s has chosen to donate to Habitat for Humanity of Charlotte, which has provided more than 1,800 local families with affordable housing. Amélie’s also aims to comfort and nourish while creating fellowship and determined that Crisis Assistance Ministry is a perfect fit for fostering a sense of community, as the organization offers emergency assistance to families in financial crisis throughout Charlotte.
