It is a memorable experience and a joy to watch the true spirit of a Teague Family Christmas. For the Teagues, the holidays were never about gifts. Instead, they simply enjoy spending time together, time spent mostly in the kitchen cooking up soulful dishes as a family. Something we all should do a lot more of. To help you with that, Claudia has shared her top secret holiday recipe for a breakfast casserole with us in hopes that you will try to cook, laugh, and love like her family this holiday season.
Breakfast Casserole
Prepare this breakfast casserole the night before, refrigerate overnight, and pop in the oven Christmas morning.
INGREDIENTS:
6 Slices of Bread
2 cup Cheddar Cheese (grated)
1 lb *Turkey Sausage Crumbles (pre-cooked)
6 large Eggs (beaten)
2 cups Half and Half
2 TBSP Butter
1 tsp Salt
1 tsp Black Pepper
1 tsp Garlic Powder
½ tsp Crushed Red Pepper Flakes
METHOD:
Preheat oven to 350°. Melt butter and brush on both sides of bread and place in the bottom of a 9 x 13 baking dish. Layer turkey sausage crumbles on top of the bread, then layer grated cheese on top of crumbles; set aside. In a bowl, whisk the eggs, add half and half and continue mixing. Next add salt, pepper, garlic powder, red pepper flakes and mix well. Pour over cheese. Cover casserole and refrigerate overnight. Remove from refrigerator 30 minutes before baking. Bake for 45 to 60 minutes.
*Substitute a vegetable or mix of vegetables and make this a vegetarian entrée.
