Nestled on a serene 2.6 acre property with a placid pond, this Charlotte NC luxury build was designed and built for a family with three young kids. “The goal was to create a space that feels equally sophisticated and inviting while entertaining as it feels comfortable for a family night in,” says interior designer Holly Taylor of custom home builder Arcadia.
A critical element of ensuring that comfort meant engineering a home that transitioned seamlessly between outdoors and indoors. Yet, it still needed to preserve the residents’ privacy. Ultimately, Taylor’s team collaborated with architectural group Smith Slovik to achieve this. In the process, they integrated a myriad of other features uniquely suited to this young family.
Old World Transitional
This spacious home stretches across 9,550 heated square feet and contains five bedrooms, six full baths, and four half baths. Throughout, the interior borrows elements from Old World style sparingly. As an illustration, see the arched doorways and windows. And the interior borrows from transitional style amply (see the statement light fixtures, as well as blend of mid century, modern, and traditional features). The primary color scheme is a soft white with accents of deep blue. Most of the hardware and lighting is elegant brass, while custom stained wood accents soften and warm.
Standout spaces include a highly functional mudroom space. Here, there are performance floor tiles, tidy shoe storage, tall cupboards, and – most charmingly – a dining nook for the dog. A dressed up galley kitchen bridges the mudroom to the formal kitchen. Plus, in the formal kitchen, gleaming countertops by Tile Collection dazzle across double islands.
One of the client’s favorite spaces in the home is the bunk room. They specifically requested this space for their three young boys. Here, lofted beds and a secret hideaway space combine to create the kind of space that kids’ dreams are made of. Circular walls, a curved ceiling, and playful robin’s egg blue wall paint add to the whimsy.
The Grounds
The builders selected the house’s position on the lot with views in mind. Take a quick stroll around the premises and you’ll understand why. This gently sloping wooded lot coalesces around a picturesque pond.
In addition to angling this Charlotte NC luxury build for perfect views, the team also crafted multiple outdoor living spaces. For example, a 1,000 square foot covered porch at the back of the house includes a grill and outdoor kitchen for easy entertaining. Coupled with an outdoor fireplace, this home is equipped for year-round outdoor enjoyment. Moreover, tucked into the right angle formed by the back of the house and the protruding porch, a sparkling pool by Lombardo Pools promises sweet relief on summer days.
All told, it’s the perfect setting for three young people and their parents to spend the next season of their lives.
