Bryan Gerrard used a life-long passion for building to create an indelible Charlotte business. He founded Gerrard Builders, one of the best custom builders in Charlotte NC, in 2004 to focus entirely on building truly remarkable residences across the greater area. He shares that there is “no greater achievement than being able to have an ever-growing list of happy homeowners living life to the fullest in their Gerrard-built homes.”
When it came to creating a haven for his own family, Bryan spared no detail. He collaborated with interior designer Amanda Swaringen, the founder and CEO of Carolina Design Associates, and Frank Smith, of Frank Smith Residential Design, to create a space unlike any other.
The Gerrard family chose Myers Park as their landing spot, and started from scratch with a new build. It’s a modern Nantucket-style cottage with five beds, five full bathrooms, and two half baths.
“We love being in the heart of the city,” Bryan shares. “We wanted this to be a place where our teenagers could have their own space, and a place they wanted to enjoy and be able to have friends over. Inspiration came from a lot of our homes and found bits and pieces that we love from many different homes. This home really is a conglomeration of many of our favorite things we have done in clients’ homes.” As custom builders in Charlotte NC, Bryan Gerrard knew exactly what he wanted.
A few items took precedence in creating the family’s dream home. One major “want” was having an abundance of natural light. Another was being able to seamlessly blend indoor and outdoor space to take advantage of the large backyard and pool.
By implementing steel windows and doors from the veranda area to the dining and family areas, Bryan and his team were able to do just that. They also added motorized shades for privacy.
Unique touches throughout the house include a golf simulator, wine cellar, and an office accessible only through a secret door. Another is the Gerrards’ cocktail lounge.
Custom Builders Charlotte NC, Custom Details
“I was afraid this would be a somewhat unused room. So, I tried to add some really cool features like the curved walls and linear fireplace to the room to make it a place that draws you in and where you want to stay,” Bryan says. “It didn’t take long after moving in that my wife, Jamie, and I found this room to be our favorite in the house. We hang out here together almost every night as we wind down from the day.”
Other standout features of the home include honed marble laminated countertops, custom made rugs throughout the home by Couture Knots, and custom pieces like the curved sofa in the lounge and the custom bed. Both were designed by Amanda Swaringen and fabricated by Morgan Chair.
As one of the custom builders in Charlotte NC, Gerrard knew which vendors to partner Sith. Windows are Pella, countertops are Instyle, tile is Three Brothers Tile and Marble, lighting is from J. Landon and Circa Interiors, the cabinets are Hardwood Creations, and all appliances are Sub-Zero & Wolf.
Bruce Clodfelter Landscaping was the Landscape Architect, and all exterior landscaping is by Arborscapes. The pool is B&B Pools.
