Good news – D9 Brewing Co. in Cornelius opened a new taproom this year, which means more beer and more friends. D9 threw down for its taproom, wrapping the grand opening into its second annual Hallowversary Party on October 29. Now outfitted with more space, D9 has already begun to schedule more events for the course of the year.
No longer squeezed between the brewery’s production and packaging areas, the new taproom is nearly double in size and offers some serious swank to go with that extra leg room. Two garage style doors connect the taproom to an outdoor seating area, where patrons perch on picnic tables and face off in epic cornhole battles on warmer nights. Inside, couches and armchairs cozy a section of the taproom, and barstools line a central, circular bar where 20 beers are on tap on any given night. Reclaimed wood and colorful accent walls warm the industrial vibe generated by the concrete floors and garage doors, as do the bartenders who are guaranteed to make customers feel like regulars, even if it’s their inaugural visit.
D9 first opened its doors in 2013 as a hole-in-the-wall nanobrewery that only served beer on Fridays. Two years later, it claimed second place in the sour-wild beers category at the Great International Beer & Cider competition and the following year snagged a gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival in the experimental beer category. Now, it’s a household name in the Lake Norman area and offers six year-round staples, available in many Harris Teeters and at some Total Wine locations, as well as a rotating selection of seasonal and batch brews. D9’s ten barrel production brewery, which can be seen from the taproom, is open seven days a week and offers tours by appointment.
