North Carolina offers many kinds of stays: expansive beachfront rentals, mountain resorts, luxury city hotels, and quaint small-town B&Bs. But there’s nothing quite like Juneberry Ridge, a 750-acre farm in Norwood that offers, for just a few days each month, a two-night regenerative farm stay in North Carolina.
Juneberry, about an hour east of Charlotte, began more than 10 years ago as a farm and nature retreat that focuses on healthy soil and plant diversity. Over its lifespan, the farm has grown into a thriving agritourism destination. Today, visitors will find event space, wooded private cabins, and inventive culinary experiences.
Permission Granted
Their newest offering, the all-inclusive farm stays, occurs monthly through the rest of the year. They are designed for single or double occupancy in one-bed cabins, or for groups of three-to-six in three-bed cabins. Stays start at $750 for single occupancy or $900 for double occupancy for all-inclusive two nights lodging.
Your weekend away will always start on a Friday. Expect a late afternoon check-in and a welcome reception that features light bites and nature-infused refreshments. Once guests settle into one of the private, well-appointed cabins, the evening will end with a session of meditation and intention setting.
“So often we hear that people are looking for permission to reset, reconnect, and reinvigorate,” says Suzanne Durkee, chief executive officer of Juneberry Ridge. “Nature entirely inspires our weekends weekends. From the food we serve to the events we host, we aim to feed your curiosity, your thirst for adventure, and your sense of wonder.”
Good – Inside and Out
During your entire stay, you’ll get hands-on experience with regenerative agriculture. As Durkee explains, all the plants in the greenhouse grow via aquaponics, whereby plants feed on nutrient-rich aquaculture water. These plants will then become part of your delicious cocktails or mocktails during the mixology class. Furthermore, the food you eat at all meals during the weekend was harvested at or around Juneberry.
Nicolas Daniels recently joined Juneberry as Head Chef. Drawing inspiration from his Chilean heritage and international travel, Daniels spent the past 14 years in North Carolina. He’s looking most forward to being at Juneberry from seed to plate.
“The Piedmont is an incredibly fertile growing region. It constantly inspires me to explore new connections with the food I make,” says Daniels, who has led kitchens for Imagine One Hospitality, The Capital Grille, and Barcelona Wine Bar, among others.
Once you settle in at the farm, everything you need to relax is at your fingertips. For example, you’ll find campfire, s’mores kits, and hot chocolate. Self-directed outdoor activities are available as well, including walking trails, lawn games and more.
Saturday’s schedule offers you a chance to explore the abundance of Juneberry Ridge in many forms. There’s a farmer’s breakfast, forest bathing, family-style lunch, greenhouse workshop, mixology class and a farm-to-fork dinner. Lastly, your farm stay in North Carolina concludes on a Sunday with yoga and a true farm-fresh brunch.
