Support The Community From Home: Ten Local Charlotte Businesses and Causes To Help This Week
Many of these local businesses are focused on simply staying afloat. Here are a few small ways you can get involved, and remember, even a donation as small as $5 can make a big difference.
FūD on the Muv
FūD on the Muv has introduced “FūD-Dough Nations” to help out those in the service industry that are out of work. To support them, send a DM on their Instagram page and place an order of the type of “dough” or baked goods you would like them to make. You can customize your baked goods however you like. Next, you make a donation of any size to their “Help the Charlotte Service Industry” tip fund and 100% of the donation will go directly to that fund. Caroline Elliot
Caroline and her friends started a GoFundMe with a goal of $30,000 as part of a larger effort to place 30 orders from local restaurants over the next 30 days and deliver meals to healthcare professionals at Atrium and Novant. So far, she’s placed orders with local restaurants like Reid’s, Harper’s, Inizio, Legion Brewing, and more. All orders also include 20% gratuity. YMCA
Both the CDC and the WHO have recommended regular exercise to maintain a healthy lifestyle and reduce stress. As part of this effort, through the YMCA of Greater Charlotte, both members and non-members can access a variety of Virtual Y classes. Some workouts are free, such as yoga, bootcamp or weightlifting. If you want more personalized training, you can set up a virtual one-on-one session. Just because you can’t go to the gym doesn’t mean the gym can’t come to you. Pin Mechanical Co./ 16-Bit Bar + Arcade
To help teammates impacted by the closing due to the COVID-19 crisis, Pins Mechanical Co. and 16-Bit Bar + Arcade began a relief program. All gift cards and merchandise, including hats, jackets and sweatshirts are 50% off online from now until April 5. All proceeds will go directly to team members in need through the Rise Relief Program, and will also provide assistance through the re-opening of Pins and 16-Bit when the crisis ends.
Brown Bag Charlotte
The Brown Bag Blessing is an initiative intended to bless families going through sickness, loss, hurting or difficult seasons. This initiative strives to bring encouragement and support to the community while removing the stress of meal preparation during tragedies and tough times. Providing a 24 hours notice, Brown Bag will have a meal for 6 people or less ready for pick up between 1-3:30pm each weekday at no cost. To support the initiative, fill in the online form of any family or individual you know that may be struggling at this time. Local Charlotte couple, Tanise and Derrick created the Give, Buy, Hi campaign to spread positivity and create change for families and small business owners in Charlotte. An exclusively female-owned South End boutique, Girl Tribe Co. has set up a scholarship. For every shirt or sweatshirt sold from the “Shop Your Local Girl Tribe” Collection, Girl Tribe Co. will donate $10 to women-owned businesses local to Charlotte that may need financial support during this difficult time. First Baptist Charlotte
First Baptist Charlotte has launched an “Operation Community Blessing”. The Brookstone families of Charlotte the church work towards to support have been impacted by the current epidemic, with over half of the parents seeing reduced hours or layoffs. They want to continue helping these families by collecting bulk items. To help support their efforts, they ask that on your normal grocery run, pick up a few items from the list they’ve provided. Then drop off the items at the preschool entrance in our back of the church parking lot. They are happy to receive these items Monday through Thursday from 9am-12pm.
