Stella G. Contemporary, the latest addition to the Park Road Shopping Center, will have its grand opening Saturday, August 12th at 6 pm.
The gallery exhibits emerging, mid-career, and established artists creating contemporary paintings, works on paper, and sculpture. The mission of Stella G. Contemporary is to enrich the community through art and to provide artists greater exposure to new markets.
The gallery’s inaugural exhibition “In Motion” features new work from artists Karl Klingbiel and Linc Thelen. Movement is a common thread in the works, but the similarities end there. Klingbiel’s gestural, abstract and dynamic mark making engages as the color combinations, swatches and structures reveal themselves.
Thelen’s work encompasses the evolution of the circle from precise architectural work to more free
flowing organic forms.
“The circle represents a metaphor and is the vehicle, which allows me to express myself. The circle can grow and evolve into different things that I can identity with. This body of work has a life of its own- a heartbeat.”
New York based artist Karl Klingbiel earned his B.A. from Yale University and has exhibited his work in the U.S. and Europe. In addition to numerous private collections, Klingbiel’s work can be found in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, The Agnes Gund Collection, the New York Public Library, and the Castellani Art Museum.
Chicago artist Linc Thelen received his B.F.A in painting from Northern Illinois University. He continued his studies by traveling abroad to Italy and France focused on mastering the chiaroscuro techniques of the Renaissance Masters. Thelen’s work is coveted in both private and public collections. Linc captures the classical principals of painting; composition, texture, form and light and transforms those prominent techniques to canvas.
