The Mint Museum and Jerald Melburg Gallery Bring the Wyeths to Charlotte in Two Exhibitions

Jerald Melberg Gallery is hosting an exhibition of drawings, watercolors, and paintings by America’s First Family of Art, the Wyeths. The gallery is poised to celebrate the great achievements of N.C., Andrew, and Jamie Wyeth, who have “collectively captured the spirit of 20th century America, depicting its people and landscapes.” Jerald Melberg Gallery will be exhibiting paintings, drawings and watercolors by N.C. Wyeth (1882-1945), his son Andrew Wyeth (1917-2009), and his grandson Jamie Wyeth (b. 1946). All works will be available for acquisition.

This exhibition coincides with the Mint Museum Randolph’s The Wyeths: Three Generations, Works from the Bank of America Collection, affording the Charlotte area an opportunity to see two major exhibitions at the same time. The Mint Randolph will host an exhibition of Bank of America’s largest collection of unique works by one family, providing a window into the Wyeth family’s artists through more than 60 remarkable paintings, drawings, and photographs. This represents the first time this unique Wyeth exhibition has been shown in the South, and its first appearance in the United States in seven years.

Dr. Jonathan Stuhlman, the Mint’s Senior Curate of American, Modern, and Contemporary Art, seems as giddy about the prospect as we are: “This is the most comprehensive exhibition of work by the members of the Wyeth family that the museum has ever hosted.”

Indeed, this is probably the most Charlotte has ever seen of these most American of artists at any one time. Both exhibitions are open to the public now.
