Playful art takes center stage at the Art & Light Gallery in Greenville SC.
Twenty Two West and Art & Light Gallery have come together to make Two Friends: a collection of mixed media art by two Greenville native artists, Teresa Roche and Mary Hamby, now of Charlotte, NC.
Their joint collection releases online and at Art & Light Gallery in Greenville, South Carolina on June 25th. They created this special collection to celebrate Hamby’s company, Twenty Two West’s, fifth business birthday. It was created during a time when putting on a party dress and celebrating was not possible, so they did what artists do best – create something from nothing. The studio was instantly alive with the joy that comes from creating and the works reflect a playful, delightful, and magical energy.
With designs bouncing around in their heads, they worked in tandem to blend the hard surface of porcelain with the softness of hand-woven threads. They mixed in bits and pieces of artisan fabric and wallpaper as well as painted papers. The blending of materials was almost effortless as two friends combined their life’s work together to shape a collection of 3D mixed media art works that are filled with surprise. With confidence in their process and aesthetic, the passing of the works back and forth was full of celebration as well and a testament to true collaboration.
The Two Friends collection connects the dots between art, design, and daily life. Say Hamby and Roche, “It was truly a joy to design pieces that make people smile.”
Their hope is that each is a visual reminder of how perfectly wonderful it is to be playful, unique, strong, and kind.
