A hallmark of the holidays, the Charlotte Ballet returns for another season of sugar plum fairies and gingerbread men in their re-imagined rendition of The Nutcracker. Attracting the likes of dance aficionados and unseasoned ballet-goers for generations, The Nutcracker has become a tradition near synonymous with family fun and Christmas cheer.
Follow Clara in a coming-of-age fairy tale adventure as she traverses the Land of Sweets, dances beneath magical snowfall, and encounters battles between the Nutcracker and the Mouse King. Complete with costumes and sets designed by the best in the industry, a stirring score by the Charlotte Symphony, and spectacularly reinterpreted choreography entitled to none other than Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux, the Charlotte Ballet honors a treasured holiday tradition with this must-see performance.
A generous grant from Hugh McColl allowed for Bonnefoux to reimagine this iconic ballet back in 2016; partnering with the industry’s premier designers and allowing himself an imaginative extension of creative liberty, Bonnefoux remastered a sensational production with a sense of both taste and tradition. Elegant and inventive, magical and mesmerizing, contemporary yet reminiscent, The Nutcracker captures the minds of patrons across generations.
The ballet will be performed at Belk Theater, December 7 – 23 with both matinee and evening performances.
