Core Sound Waterfowl Museum and Heritage Center is located on the tip of Harkers Island, North Carolina, where there is a big focus on appreciating the culture of community instead of the rush of the city.
Core Sound works with coastal communities on the eastern part of the state to support culture, community, education, economy, and the environment with a high quality of life for all residents. The way Core Sound plans to achieve this vision is by using their facilities as a location to enhance the community, state and region by bringing together the historical, cultural, artistic, environmental, and educational elements needed to preserve the rich waterfowl heritage of eastern North Carolina associated with the area.
One of the most beloved events that Core Sound hosts is its Waterfowl Weekend. Waterfowl Weekend is a reason to celebrate the waterfowling history, traditions, and spirit of eastern North Carolina. This event took place November 30 through December 2, 2018 where there was over 75 local artisans, exhibitors, and craftspeople on-site.
Throughout the weekend, there were numerous special events that took place. Some of these included a book signing with chef, restaurant owner, and award-winning TV personality behind “A Chefs Life,” Vivian Howards; food truck round-up; and a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Clause.
Throughout the weekend, there was an online silent auction for fantastic products, merchandise, and experiences including hand-turned cedar vases, original oil paintings, a sunset cruise for two, and more. On Saturday, the lighting of the Cape Lookout Lighthouse took place, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, the weekend was wrapped up and the winter season was welcomed by naming the Cab and Barbara Ramsey Island Decorating Winner.
