Late in the pandemic, when we had all reached pinnacle levels of stir crazy and found ourselves exploring increasingly creative, novel, or just plain strange ways to stay sane and pass the time, Ashlyn Greer found a career. In the fall of 2020, a friend of Ashlyn’s who was feeling unmoored by the sudden absence of dressing for each day, reached out to request a styling session.
Greer compiled a few looks and styling notes. Her friend then shared these on social media, lighting a grassroots fire that led to the launch of Greer’s styling business, Fashivly, in 2021. Since then, the business has recruited stylists all over the country and received nods from InStyle, Refinery29, Bustle, and more.
How Fashivly Works
After booking a style guide, clients receive a detailed questionnaire. Prompts relate to everything from career to location to style goals to lifestyle. Then, Fashivly stylists pull head-to-toe looks based on the information provided by the client. Plus, they include shoppable links, creating a digital shopping list perfectly tailored to the client’s size, budget, and style.
For clients, working with a Fashivly stylist means, above all, saving time. “If you’re looking for a pair of jeans and you’re 5’1” and curvy, you probably have spent hours reading reviews, trying on 50 pairs of jeans at the mall, and buying and returning frequently. We don’t promise magic. But what we can do is give you the top 3-5 options to try based on what we know. It’s like a shortcut to shopping,” explains Greer.
Working with a stylist also benefits clients struggling to define their style or blend their separate pieces into cohesive outfits. “If you’re someone who knows how they might want to look. However, you struggle with how to put looks together or what type of shoes go with what pants, what trends you should try and which ones you should leave. Then, that’s where we come in,” says Greer.
Fashion for Everyone
Both Greer and her co-founder, Mollye Rivera, have had a passion for fashion from a very young age. For Rivera, that meant showing up to her third grade career fair as a fashion designer. For Greer, that meant imagining how she might style her seventh grade teacher. However, they recognize that this isn’t everyone’s experience with fashion, which is where Fashivly comes in.
“Our typical client is in their 20’s, 30’s, or 40’s and is either looking for a way to revamp their style, or just needs someone to help them put together great looks that they don’t have or want to spend the time searching for,” says Greer. In short, the company takes all of the grunt work out of fashion. In the process, it leaves just the delightful parts behind for clients.
“At the end of the day what we’re trying to do is democratize fashion. The fashion industry as a whole gets a bad rap for being incredibly exclusive, elitist, and a little bit out of touch if we’re being honest,” says Greer. “Fashion is and should be fun for everyone!”
