Looking to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day in Charlotte in a fun, new way this year? Trees Charlotte and your favorite local restaurants are helping you do just that!
During Earth Week, beginning April 20, 2020, TreesCharlotte is partnering with a variety of local restaurants and breweries to give away free seedlings when customers pick up takeout at curbside/call-ahead services.
TreesCharlotte is a public/private nonprofit collaboration with the city of Charlotte to grow, diversify and steward the city’s iconic urban forest. They are in our seventh planting season.
Three species of native seedlings will be available to people – Persimmons, Swamp White Oaks and Hickory Pignuts. Each one gives you the chance to add shade, provide wildlife habitat, clean the air, filter the water and bring decades of beauty to Charlotte.
For a city of our size, Charlotte has an astounding number of trees—far more than the national average for a comparable urban area.
The seedling giveaways begin April 20 and will continue until inventory runs
out! Earth Day is officially April, 22. Since 1970, Earth Day has increased awareness of our planet, and encouraged people to learn more about pollution, climate change, endangered species, and many other environmental issues.
Participating breweries and restaurants include:
Amelie’s French Bakery: NoDa, Park Road and Carmel Commons locations.
Birdsong Brewing Co.
Brixx Pizza: Dilworth, Foxcroft and Blakeney locations.
Legion Brewing: Plaza-Midwood and SouthPark locations.
The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery
Sabor: NoDa and SouthPark locations
The Unknown Brewing Company
Wooden Robot: South End location.
All are offering takeout / curbside pickup options, and several of the businesses also offer delivery.
This is a chance not only to support and celebrate Earth Day in Charlotte but also to help support your favorite local businesses during a time of need.
