Kristin Hayes keeps the true spirit of jewelry alive in her work by creating timeless pieces. Her jewelry, handmade from semiprecious stones and metal, have more than just an alluring aesthetic appeal because each piece is crafted to create a special meaning.
Over the last decade, Kristin’s jewelry has not only taken the bridal industry in the South by storm but also has become a favorite among the most fashionable women in Charlotte.
Graduating from Appalachian State University with a degree in Apparel and Design, Kristin moved to New York City where she accepted a production assistant position in Tommy Hilfiger’s Children’s Division. She later moved to the Women’s Sportswear Division where she worked with the Federated Department Stores. When she came back to the Queen City, Hayes was a seasoned veteran in the fashion industry.
From a young age Kristin was always fascinated with metals and fine workings. She always tinkered with jewelry and metal, creating designs for her own personal collection. Eventually, following the encouragement of her father, NASCAR team owner, Johnny Hayes, Kristin took all of the her knowledge of the fashion industry, acquired from stints with some of the best brands in the country, and applied it to her own brand. “Nothing creatively holds my attention like jewelry. From a young age it has always been an interest. I never thought I would design jewelry, I just thought I would collect and appreciate it. Once I actually realized I could make and design jewelry I was hooked. I cautiously pursued my interest in jewelry for several years while working in the fashion industry and television. I reached a point where I decided I wanted to focus 100 percent on jewelry and it has been a whirlwind ever since.” She started her own fine jewelry line in 2005, and over the last ten years has added several absolutely stunning lines.
Kristin carries four distinctive lines, Johnny and Ann, Emerald Hayes, Signature, and Bridal. Each line is unique with a hint of vintage flare and named for and inspired by her family and friends. The Emerald Hayes line, inspired by Kristin’s grandfather, is one of her best selling lines and is sought after because of the beautiful ways it combines vintage materials with semi-precious stones. To many of her repeat customers, Kristin’s lines have an unsurpassed beauty that is whimsical in nature and, most of all, irreplaceable. “I love clean lines, a little romance and a good dash of edge. I want my pieces to be timeless” she says. Instead of focusing on what’s hot in boutiques or trying to keep up with the newest fads, Kristin focuses on designing jewelry that is a reflection of her own style. “I try to stay away from trends. I prefer to trust my own instincts and pace,” Kristin says.
I draw inspiration from things that will have meaning for the wearer. I love themes that people have loved for centuries, symbols of love, good luck and spirituality. I also want my customers to be noticed whether it is because of the uniqueness of the piece or the sentiment behind the design.
Her designs have even landed her in Martha Stewart Weddings, USA Today, and O Magazine. Being a huge commodity in Charlotte doesn’t stop there; Kristin has had her jewelry photographed all around the world. With prices ranging from $50 to $1,500 Kristin Hayes jewelry can be the perfect affordable wedding gem or holiday gift.
